About

I am Laurance Lin. My work exists at the intersection where the precise logic of information technologies meets the unpredictable nature of financial economics.

I view the world through a stochastic lens. To me, reality is not a machine of predetermined outcomes, but a complex system defined by randomness. Technology and algorithms are not magic wands that enforce order upon this chaos; they are simply instruments—sophisticated lenses we use to peel back the layers of noise and non-systematic randomness to reveal the underlying mechanisms that govern our world.

This pursuit drives my methodology. I leverage the tools of mathematics, statistics, and computer science not for their own sake, but to deconstruct the fundamental structures of business and game theory. I apply this rigor to broader landscapes—macroeconomics, business strategy, and market dynamics—seeking to understand the "why" behind the data.

Yet, a purely quantitative view is incomplete. To truly understand a system composed of humans, one must look beyond the numbers. I ground my technical work in the humanities—history, literature, and introspection—believing that the sharpest insights often come from understanding the irrational, human elements that drive the equations.

This website is a record of that exploration. It is a digital garden where I curate my understanding of a probabilistic world, clarifying not just what I have done, but what I see.
